I remember seeing a Love Hina dating sim game (okay, it was using the same engine as tons of the other type dating sims but hey, it had Love Hina characters). About the scenery, using photographies of real places can be a good idea, but first you have to, you know, *find* places that can suit the game. And if said places are found, don't simple put it behind the caracters, do it like in Tsukihime, paint them in blue or something.

4chan can provide an artist, and apparently creating the game itself just requires you to use a template. Photos of real-life locales spiced up in Photoshop would work well, but if that won't work, just steal some backgrounds from /wg/. I'm sure they could provide something.

I dunno about doing the story with one person, since it would make it take real long, but if you're trying to have many writers who aren't meeting in person, things could get complex and you could get all kinds of continuity goofs and shit.

Blade Engine is basically a crippled, commercial Ren'py.

Ren'py is the best choice for ease of use and cross-platform.

The English ONScripter has been seen in Tsukihime, Gadget Trial, and other things, but can't be as easily changed as Ren'py.

Distributing the work is always a good idea, especially in the art department. You could have different people in charge of polishing up the images or coloring them, editing, etc.

Instead of the clichéd "guy moves to a new town," I'd rather see him stay in the same town, but transfer to a school for the disabled after he develops some sort of disease.

That way, his character development can be seen through the eyes of both his new friends and his old friends. And then he can form a team for some competitive sport and kick his old school's team's asses.

Changing schools has the point where the protagonist is the new kid (maybe coming in at the second year of high school, even, so he's one of the rare new people that year), yet he's got friends and other acquaintance-type people around him since he hasn't relocated from his previous home town.

Maybe make the school some sort of a special thing for kids with disabilities? Perhaps the protagonist sees himself as having terribly bad luck, the other schools in the area having no room due to funding cutbacks or something, so he's one of the rare kids there without a disability? This would open doors for a tsundere character, who's pissed off at the protagonist's perceived superiority due to his being "normal". This line of thinking has the con that it'd be hard to explain adequately why he'd got transferred out of his previous school without moving from one town to another; maybe the presence of accessory characters wouldn't be so big a deal after all.

Or you could just give the protagonist a googly eye or equivalent, enough to get him transferred out from the previous school due to bullying or something.

Blind girl being tsundere sounds pretty good. Tsundere characters have a strong physical presence anyway.

Onscripter is a fairly powerfull engine for making your own h-game.

However it would be pretty easy to code a h-game engine as it would be little more than code that goes through an info file.

for example you could do this kind of structure and just parse through each line:

In all seriousness, I don't know just how coordinated the forums are, but you guys have to realize that this is doomed to fail. I mean, you can't have a bunch of weeaboos go around and make the art, have more weeaboos write the story, and even more weeaboos program, if they are not in definite consensus as to precisely what is going to happen in the game. You can't expect all this to just get done 'as you go along' or simultaneously.

This is just a guess, but I’m going to assume than anonymous will make a bunch of faptastic art, only for it to eventually become irrelevant to the story, or completely disregarded. The programmers will get annoyed as hell, because the writers will keep changing shit, and as for the writing? Well, these are serious disabilities, things that most people cannot simply overlook. Thusly, the characters will need massive development, personality, and good writing to back it up. No offense, but I just don’t see this happening, because unless you have a script for each character route, as well as how the characters interact with each other, then this just won’t get off the ground.

You can call me a nay-sayer or pessimistic, but I’m just trying to be realistic.

I intend to do at least some sort of a visual novel scripting engine once I get my software working again. It shouldn't be too hard anyway, since I'm quite familiar with the tool that I use and I have experience in making mostly text-based games, since I have produced a few text adventures of my own, and even made a joke "hentai" game with my friend at our LAN Party. I made the engine and it was completely based on reading all the events from file called "hentai.porn". For fucks sake, we even drew all the graphics with MS Paint, in black & white, and had the resolution set to 320x200.
...Yeah, you can pretty much figure out why that "game" was never finished. At least we had fun making it.

Just use ONscripter. All the work is already done. Plus it's open source and multi-platform, so us Linuxfags and Macfags will be able to play it. It's thanks to this fact that I have a fully working translated copy of Tsukihime sitting on my Mac.

I turn off the lights. Girls always get nervous about this kind of thing with the lights on after all. I reach out to where I know she is and grab her shoulders. The doctor hesitated. The superintendent locked his eyes on him in a diamond hard gaze. The doctor breaks. Nothing can stand up to the superintendent’s diamond look.

The superintendent sighed. He didn’t know how he was going to explain to this to the kid’s parents. If only the world…he felt a tug on his coat, turning, he looks to see the visitor.

“Oh, Deaf-tan? What are you doing here?”

”I came to see him,” she signed.

“Go right in” the superintendent said. “I’ll give you some time alone while I speak with the doctor here.”

Deaf-tan nods and moves quietly in. The superintendent grabs the doctor by the arm and pulls him away. The doctor splutters out protests as they move away from the room.

“Really sir! We can’t leave the patient alone. Especially not with someone who might not be mentally sound around him right now!”

The superintendent glanced sidelong at his companion.

“It’s closure,” he said. “This is the only way she’ll be able to move along. Anyways, I trust her to make the right decision.”

The doctor falls silent and takes a peek back at the room before being hustled away around a corner.

Deaf-tan looked around the room. There’s he monitor showing his heartbeat, there’s bed that he was on, and there’s the IV dripping into him. Deaf-tan reaches up to the IV and holds it gently in her hand. With just one squeeze this could be over. With just one squeeze she could get retribution….

Tears well up and she looks down, embarrassed if anyone would come in. Deaf-tan sees his hands, those hands that did all those things to her. She sees the tube in his arms twitching softly as his hand moves back and forth…hmm?

Deaf-tan lowers her hand from the IV bag and looks at his hand. It’s in a fist and rubbing against the bed. Repeatedly going round and round in its little groove.

Hesitatingly, she takes his hand. It continues to move even as she holds it, making it awkward on her. She places his hand on his chest where it makes a circling clockwise movement.

“Sorry…Sorry…Sorry…” Again and again and again.

Deaf-tan stares for a minute as the tears flow freely. Then, taking his other hand, she brushes her fingers lightly on it.

“Forgive…I forgive you…” she signs onto his hand. His circling hand slows, then stops. Deaf tan holds his hand and stands there until the doctor rushed.

He was pronounced dead upon the doctor’s return. His heart monitor stopped beeping, but she couldn’t hear it.

You could call it Body and Mind. Body being those who have difficult body disabilities Mind being more those with mental problems. Make it so Blind wasn't born blind but eventually lost her vision and we can add a bit more mental problems to her. There's some argument upthread about whether or not this game should take place in a Japanese setting.

I say it should be because the Japanese education system uses special schools to aggregate all students with disabilities, making it easy for the five girls to all be in the same school. If the game had an American setting, Legless-tan would almost certainly be mainstreamed, Deaf-tan would either attend a private school for the Deaf or be mainstreamed but have tailored classes some periods, and if Burn-tan was unable to attend 'normal' school because of her self-perception, she'd either be homeschooled/tutored or make regular trips to some sort of hospice or mental help facility.
